Yoga with Fiona

The pace of modern life with all its external stimulation, can leave us out of touch with our individual purpose. Aiming to recognise and reach our potential in life requires a state of balanced health and focus.

Many have lost the ability to feel things and look to others for clarification and purpose. I believe that we have all the answers within us, but it takes discipline and hard work to gain back these abandoned gifts which were given as our birthright.

Yoga allows us to experience this connection within ourselves. Regardless of our individual chosen religion or belief system, yoga reminds us to respect the place from where we came, by respecting ourselves.

Yoga is essentially the practice of refining ourselves holistically. It is the practice of disciplining the mind, body and spirit to optimum capacity. It is the practice of mindfulness, compassion, grace and love through all actions.

By exploring the magnitude of its philosophy you can acquire the tools to better your life and the lives of those around you, to a greater extent than you ever thought possible.

My yoga

My journey into yoga began over 15 years ago with a few tentative steps, but soon became a way of life, which fills me with constant strength and intrigue.  The knowledge yoga gave me felt like an immense secret I wanted to share with everyone, and for this reason I began to teach.

I may have been practicing for some time but I have learnt so much from you and makes me realise
how much yet there is to learn still  - you are an inspirational yogi with a lovely teaching style - respect.

The yogic path is made up of 8 steps, known as the 8 limbs of yoga, and they offer a path through which higher and deeper understanding of the self can be obtained.  Asana (posture) and Pranayama (breath) are the most commonly practiced aspects of the 8-limbed path.  Yet it is the integration of the entire philosophy of yoga that long-term practitioners should be aiming for.

Asana

Alignment is the foundation of asana and once this has been achieved, the repetition of asana practice brings huge therapeutic benefits.

Constant and regular practice allows the slow, gentle and permanent re-alignment of the entire skeletal structure.  Every part of the body can then take its place and assume its function.

Pranayama

This is the process of yogic breathing, or the science of breath.  Learning to breath correctly is a hugely under-rated aspect of human health.  Taking just one really slow, long, deep breath in and out, allows you to feel how tension in the body falls away. All of the asanas are practiced with an awareness of breath, which is the vital conscious link between our physical and emotional selves.

Your yoga practice should be ever evolving, moving away from rigidity and habit.  The challenge is to find comfort within movements as we learn to realign the structure of the body through correct placement.  Creating space with breath, it is possible to extend out from the spine, finding freedom of movement as we blossom from the core.

My classes are suitable for all levels, as each individual is gently guided within the limitations of their own breath and movement patterns.

One to one

Many people choose to visit me at my Lewes based clinic for personal sessions.  This offers an excellent opportunity for a specialist focus allowing for accelerated growth and improvement.

Thank you for your energy, space, expertise, encouragement and helping me to keep in touch with
myself and my wearing body.

Yoga therapy

As yoga is such a broad subject, the scope of its theraputic use is endless.  By applying breath techniques and specialist postural work, both emotional release and muscular skeletal healing can be facilitated.
